Product Description:
Estropipate, also known as piperazine estrone sulfate, is a synthetic estrogen medication primarily used in menopausal hormone therapy. It is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness that result from decreased estrogen levels during menopause. Estropipate has also been used in the management of hypoestrogenism due to ovarian failure or hypogonadism and, in some cases, for the prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis.
Chemically, estropipate is a salt formed from estrone sulfate and piperazine. After oral administration, it is metabolized in the body to estrone and estradiol, the principal endogenous estrogens responsible for regulating female reproductive tissues and secondary sexual characteristics. Through estrogen receptor activation, estropipate helps restore hormonal balance, supporting normal cellular function in estrogen-responsive tissues.
Estropipate has been marketed under several brand names, including Harmogen, Improvera, Ogen, Ortho-Est, and Sulestrex. Its clinical use has declined in many regions due to the availability of newer estrogen formulations; however, it remains an important reference product in women’s health and hormone replacement therapy portfolios.
