Product Description:
Fluorescein is an organic compound and synthetic dye belonging to the triarylmethine dye family, characterized by a xanthene-based tricyclic chemical structure. It is typically available as a dark orange to red crystalline powder that is slightly soluble in water and alcohol. Fluorescein is widely recognized for its strong fluorescent properties, which make it highly valuable as a tracer and diagnostic agent across multiple scientific and medical applications.
In aqueous solutions, fluorescein exhibits distinctive optical behavior. When viewed by reflected light, its solutions appear bright green, while under transmitted light they show an orange hue. These color characteristics are strongly influenced by the pH of the solution, as changes in ionization affect its fluorescence intensity and spectral properties. At higher concentrations, fluorescein solutions may appear red due to re-absorption of emitted light within the solution itself.
Because of its high visibility and fluorescence, fluorescein is extensively used as a fluorescent tracer in ophthalmology, diagnostic imaging, laboratory research, and industrial applications. It is also employed as a colorant in products such as bubble levels, where it enhances the visibility of the air bubble within the liquid-filled tube. Its unique optical properties make fluorescein an essential compound in both medical diagnostics and technical applications.
