Product Description:
Fostemsavir is an antiretroviral medication used for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in heavily treatment-experienced adults who have limited therapeutic options. It is specifically indicated for patients whose current antiretroviral regimen is failing due to viral resistance, drug intolerance, or safety concerns associated with other HIV therapies. Fostemsavir is marketed under the brand name Rukobia and is prescribed in combination with other antiretroviral agents as part of an optimized background regimen.
Fostemsavir is a prodrug that is converted in the body to its active form, temsavir. Temsavir works by inhibiting the attachment of HIV-1 to CD4+ T-cells by binding to the viral gp120 protein. By blocking viral entry into host cells, fostemsavir prevents HIV from infecting new cells and reduces viral replication. This novel mechanism of action makes fostemsavir effective even in cases where the virus has developed resistance to multiple other classes of antiretroviral drugs.
