Product Description:
Ipratropium bromide is an anticholinergic bronchodilator and nasal spray used to manage a variety of respiratory conditions. Administered via inhaler, nebulizer, or nasal spray, it helps open the medium and large airways in the lungs and reduces nasal secretions. The inhalation forms are primarily used to treat symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, producing bronchodilation by inhibiting muscarinic receptors in the airways. Onset of action occurs within 15 to 30 minutes, with effects lasting approximately three to five hours. While somewhat less potent than beta-2 agonists in asthma, ipratropium is equally effective in bronchitis and provides longer-duration relief. Combination therapy with beta-2 agonists, theophylline, or sodium cromoglycate can enhance therapeutic outcomes due to complementary mechanisms of action.
The nasal spray formulation prevents the nasal glands from producing excessive fluid, providing relief from rhinorrhea associated with allergic rhinitis, nonallergic rhinitis, and the common cold. Administered via a metered-dose manual pump, its onset of action is typically within one hour, making it an effective option for controlling nasal congestion and runny nose symptoms. Ipratropium bromide offers flexible administration routes to address both lower and upper airway conditions effectively.
