Product Description:
Isosulfan blue is a synthetic visual lymphatic imaging agent widely used in surgical oncology to assist in the identification of sentinel lymph nodes. It is administered by injection into the periphery of the tumor site, where it selectively enters the lymphatic system and travels along lymphatic channels toward regional lymph nodes. This targeted movement allows surgeons to visually trace lymphatic drainage pathways during operative procedures.
Once injected, isosulfan blue stains the sentinel lymph node a distinct blue color, enabling accurate identification of the first lymph node to which cancer cells are most likely to spread from a primary tumor. The stained lymph nodes are surgically removed and examined microscopically to determine the presence or absence of malignant cells. This technique plays a critical role in cancer staging and helps guide treatment decisions while minimizing unnecessary lymph node removal.
Isosulfan blue is commonly used in procedures involving breast cancer, melanoma, and other solid tumors where sentinel lymph node mapping is required. As a laboratory-manufactured dye intended for diagnostic use, it must be administered by trained healthcare professionals in controlled surgical settings to ensure accurate results and patient safety.
