Product Description:
Pamidronate disodium is the disodium salt of the synthetic bisphosphonate pamidronate, widely used in the management of disorders associated with increased bone resorption. Although its exact mechanism of action is not fully understood, pamidronate disodium selectively binds to calcium phosphate crystals in bone tissue. By doing so, it inhibits osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, helping to reduce bone breakdown while preserving normal bone mineralization and formation.
Pamidronate disodium is commonly used to prevent bone loss and to treat osteoporosis, particularly in patients at high risk of fractures. It is also indicated for strengthening bone in Paget’s disease of bone and for preventing bone loss associated with long-term corticosteroid therapy. In oncology settings, pamidronate disodium plays an important role in managing skeletal complications in cancers with a high tendency to involve bone, such as multiple myeloma and metastatic malignancies.
Due to its ability to regulate calcium levels by promoting calcium sequestration in bone, pamidronate disodium is also used in the treatment of hypercalcemia. Additionally, it has been explored as an experimental therapy in certain rare bone disorders, including osteogenesis imperfecta, and has been studied for its potential benefits in complex regional pain syndrome.
