Product Description:
Tamsulosin is an FDA approved alpha-1 adrenergic receptor blocker and used to treat BPH. It is classified as a prescription-only medication and is regulated under Schedule H in India. Available in the form of oral capsule or modified release tablet form typically 0.4 mg. Regulatory bodies require labelling to include warnings about these risks especially before cataract surgery.
Tamsulosin hydrochloride is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor blocker widely used in the management of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men. It works by relaxing the smooth muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, which helps improve urine flow and reduces symptoms such as difficulty in starting urination, weak stream, and frequent or urgent urination. Because of its receptor selectivity, it mainly targets the urinary tract and has less effect on blood pressure compared to non-selective alpha blockers. In addition to BPH, tamsulosin is also prescribed in certain cases of chronic prostatitis to relieve urinary discomfort. It is further used as part of medical expulsive therapy to support the passage of kidney stones, especially when the stones are larger and located in the lower urinary tract. The medicine is taken orally, usually once daily after the same meal each day to maintain consistent absorption. Tamsulosin is generally well tolerated, and it is available globally under several brand names and generic versions.
