Product Description:
Orphenadrine citrate is a skeletal muscle relaxant belonging to the ethanolamine antihistamine class and is closely related to diphenhydramine. It is primarily used to relieve muscle pain, stiffness, and spasm associated with musculoskeletal conditions such as strains, sprains, and acute back or neck injuries. Orphenadrine works through multiple mechanisms in the central nervous system, producing both muscle relaxation and mild analgesic effects, which can improve mobility and support recovery when combined with rest and physical therapy.
In addition to its use for musculoskeletal pain, orphenadrine has been used to assist with motor control in Parkinson’s disease due to its anticholinergic properties. However, its clinical use has largely been superseded by newer drugs with improved safety and efficacy profiles. While some studies suggest that orphenadrine may be beneficial for acute musculoskeletal pain, evidence for its effectiveness in chronic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis is limited. Despite being considered a “dirty drug” because of its action on multiple pathways, orphenadrine remains a valuable option for short-term relief of muscle pain and spasm in appropriate clinical settings.
